Colchester Teacher Training Consortium offers graduates three main routes into teaching:

  • School Direct Training Programme (Tuition fee)

  • School Direct Training Programme (Salaried)

  • Assessment Only Route – please click here for further information on the Assessment Only Route into teaching

What Qualifications does the School Direct Training Programmes lead to?

These courses are accredited by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) and lead to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The Colchester Teacher Training Consortium is currently validated by the University of Greenwich to deliver PGCE courses in a variety of subjects. The PGCE is offered at Professional or Post Graduate level, the latter award providing 60 credits towards a full Master’s degree course. All trainees on the School Direct (tuition fee) route and Provider Led route will study for a PGCE in their subject. Trainees on the School Direct (salaried) route will have the option to follow a PGCE course if they wish to.

School Centred Initial Teacher Training explained

The CTTC is a School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider. The secondary schools in Colchester have worked closely together to design a school-based programme for training teachers. Our consortium is made up of 14 secondary schools and over 30 primary schools. Their common characteristic is their enthusiasm to provide a high quality training environment for tomorrow’s teachers, where trainees can learn from the best practice. The School Direct course offers a distinctive form of initial teacher training, since it is both based in schools and run by them. For trainees, one of the most significant advantages of School Direct training is that from day to day they are in a school and classroom environment and thereby all the time acquiring the knowledge and skills required for effective teaching. An experienced teacher will mentor each trainee.
